09 June 19 - Staying safe with Inflatables- Part 2

Anchoring down

In the first part of our Safety blog series we gave you an insight into how important location is when setting up for our inflatables, which you can find here. In this second part, we’re talking about the inflation stage and how we prepare our inflatables for you safely and securely.

Ok, lets get to work!

  • We roll out our inflatable in the perfect spot after checking the aforementioned location fits all of our safety measures of course
  • Anchors away as we ensure any ropes are temporarily attached to the anchor points, ensuring the windward side is safely secured whilst we inflate. Before driving any stakes into the ground, it’s also crucial we’ve checked for any pipes etc running underneath- this is where we need your help to let us know of anything underground we should be aware of.
  • If we’re setting up on hard ground, then we use weights to secure our inflatables. These weights withstand a force of over 160kg…
  • After a scout around to ensure everyone is at a safe distance, we switch on the blower and allow the inflatable to fully inflate. Whilst inflation takes place, we’re constantly checking the temporary anchor points to ensure none of the ropes pull tight and remain in correct position.
  • Once inflated, it’s time to fix the permanent anchor points. All stakes are positioned so that the ropes go upwards towards the inflatable at between 30 and 45 degrees (very precise, there’s a knack to it!)
  • Once anchored and secure, we then make sure the blower is moved as far away from the inflatable as it can possibly go and then moved forward 50mm to leave a little free play room in case it’s moved by any over enthusiastic bouncing
  • Under pressure! You might think we’re being odd at this point but we promise, there’s a reason to our madness. By standing 50cm from the edge on the lowest part of the inflated base with our feet together we can check the internal air pressure simply by seeing if our feet touch the ground through the inflatable!
  • Finally we use landing mats all around the inflatables to ensure a safe entry and exit for everyone taking part

All inflated and ready to go? Not just yet, stay tuned…
