14 September 15 - The Origin of Bouncy Castles

Bouncy Castles are known by many different names which vary by region and country. You may have heard them called Bounce Houses, Moon Walks, Spacewalks, Joy Jumps, Jump Houses, Jumping Castles, Jumpers — maybe even Brinca Brinca if you’ve ever been to Spain (that translates to Jump Jump, just so you know). Who was the first to come up with the idea of inflatable amusement rides? Unfortunately, that fact is somewhat in dispute. Some sources credit their possible origin in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

One story claims that an American named John Spurlock invented an inflatable “Moon Walk” in 1962 after watching his employees have fun jumping on the inflatable pool and tennis court covers he manufactured. The British story dates their origin to one year earlier in 1961 when some university students designed a bouncy castle for use during a fundraising event. It is entirely possible that both of these stories are true. It is possible as well that both of them are both full of air and can be easily deflated. Who came up with the idea first, doesn’t much matter to us here at Blackpool Bounce and it certainly doesn’t seem to matter much to the thousands of kids who love our Bouncy Castle inflatables.

Our inflatable bouncy castles, fun runs and obstacle courses will make the perfect entertainment option for your next garden party. Birthday celebrations, wedding receptions or any family get-together can be much improved with these fun inflatables and garden toys. Adults can get as much joy from them as children and they can be hired and set up for office parties too.

Set up and delivery is included in our price up to 15 miles. Further distances will incur a nominal delivery cost to cover the additional fuel. At Blackpool Bounce, all of our equipment is checked regularly and is covered by public liability insurance.
